Where to bring a Gluten Free and Vegan Date in Los Angeles?
So here's the deal I've been on a whole slew of dates and guys always take me to the same place cause when they type in Gluten Free + Los Angeles in Yelp - Cafe Gratitude is the top thing that comes up. Look, I like Cafe Gratitude but it's not my date pick. So I'm here to give you some better restaurant options and OPTIONS are always good. Not any restaurant will do. Dating in Los Angeles is an ordeal in itself so let’s make everything a little easier and better. Dating can be pretty awesome when you find that perfect place to go. I even run into my non-gluten free and non-vegan friends at these places on dates, cause they are that good!
Here is the break down dating style:
Look there aren't a ton of gluten free +vegetarian things on the menu but the ones that are- are AMAZING! Artichoke salad, Shinto Peppers, Edamame, Veggie Sushi Rolls, Sorbet, Tea + Bomb Drinks. This is a great date spot cause you can spend time hanging and talking, I recommend if you can go early and get a drink at the bar and wait for the outside couch seats to open up, and sit on the same side so you can hear each other. With the waves crashing and sun setting it sets the perfect mood!
Fancy is as fancy does, and this place is fancy. This joint may just keep you "Forever Young", its Vegan & Gluten Free food at its finest, plus the freshest of drinks. This is a white tablecloth sort of place that serves phenomenal food. The food is an eclectic mix but order the crab cakes for sure! You pretty much have to make reservations any night of the week, but if your last minute you can grab seats at the bar.
(go to the Culver City location)
The lights are always low and the food is always spectacular. Everything is vegan and organic, plus almost everything is gluten free. Make sure to make a reservation if it’s a weekend night. They have superb unique bubbly drinks, tasty sushi, fun apps, and delicious desserts. This is one of those slow food sort of places, they only bring out one dish at a time so can can savor everything.
Hinoki & The Bird
I don't think I could possibly rave enough about this place. It was voted one of the best restaurants in all of Los Angeles last year and the food is superb. They are completely cool with you diverging from the menu, so order off menu and get the Vegan Curry! When you call for a reservation ask them email you the gluten free and vegan menu. They love to accommodate to different diets here. Even the kale salad is mind blowing here, and I never say that about kale salad. The ceiling is covered with living plants, and you just feel relaxed, even in this busy restaurant. This place is the hip of hips, so make sure you got reservations.
This spot is completely overlooked but maybe that's a good thing cause you won't feel rushed out. I recommend sitting at the traditional round tables to your right as you walk in. Make sure to ask for the Gluten Free Injera (only place in town that makes it), everything is vegan and delicious! Ethiopian food at its finest, cool vibe, family owned, shared dishes, perfect place to have a good but chill dinner.
Again this place knows how to set the mood, sit on the cushion round tables or even the secret back room. Lots of good Indian dishes. You will soon feel like you’re in Nirvana.
This is for a more casual date, maybe you’re going to see a show in Silver Lake but wanna grab a bite first. This place is great, it's quite small so you won't be hanging out much after you eat. But BEST Gluten Free & Vegan Pizza in all of Los Angeles. Everything here is vegan. This place is cool like really cool so be cool and go here.
The lights are low and they bring out bubbling pots of hot food- YUM! Try everything, but especially the mochi cause they are the only place I have ever known to make their own (this isn't the ice cream kind). Everything is macrobiotic here.
It's busy but that's because it's the best Japanese food in town. A huge menu and again there are private seating towards the back if you ask. But this place is just fun and over order to try a bunch of stuff.
